Safety & Security Manager, London

The role:-

Reporting to the Director of Yacht Management/DPA/CSO you will be responsible for updating and ensuring the effectiveness of the company’s safety and security policies and procedures and the full compliance of the managed fleet with all relevant legislation.-

Duties:-

  • Keeping the Management Department and managed fleet fully informed of all matters relating to Safety and Security and other relevant information
  • Monitor current and upcoming legislation to ensure the Burgess managed fleet remains fully compliant at all times
  • Recommend safety and security policy changes to the DPA/CSO, submit recommended changes to the SMS, SSP, Fleet Circulars and Security Circulars to the DPA/CSO for approval
  • Chair the monthly, quarterly and annual Safety & Security meetings
  • Act as a member of the emergency response team
  • Provide support to the members of the management team throughout the Burgess Group
  • Continually review the Burgess SMS and recommend any changes and updates
  • Assist in the investigation of accidents, incidents and near-misses
  • Take the lead in the administration, maintenance and development of ‘Burgess Manage’ the company’s web-based safety management system
  • Coordinate external and internal ISM/ISPS audit programme
  • Obtain and distribute to the management team relevant information from appropriate sources within the yachting and shipping industry on safety and security related matters

    The successful candidate will ideally have the following attributes:-

  • Sea-going experience as Captain, Mate or Chief Engineer with the appropriate qualification for this position;
  • A thorough knowledge of ISM and ISPS and relevant regulations with previous experience in safety and security management
  • Excellent communication and diplomacy skills, able to communicate effectively at all levels internally and externally
  • Effective problem solving and multi-tasking abilities with a flexible approach to tackling a wide range of tasks
  • A sound knowledge of yacht/ship operation
  • Fluent in spoken and written English. Proficiency in other languages will be beneficial but not essential
  • Live within commuting distance of London and be eligible to work in the UK
  • Good sense of humour

    Deckhand – 61M Motor Yacht

    We are looking for a Deckhand for a 61m private Motor Yacht based in the Mediterranean.

    The suitable candidates must have at least one seasons experience, holder valid STCW95 and a valid seafarers medical.

    Stewardess - 50m Motor Yacht

    We are looking for a Stewardess with high standards of service and keen eye for details for a 50m Private motor yacht. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic yacht and crew based in the Mediterranean.

    The successful candidate must hold a STCW95 certificate and a valid seafarer medical. This is a full-time permanent position.

    Housekeeper - 68m Motor Yacht

    A Housekeeper is required for a 68m Charter Motor Yacht based in the Mediterranean.

    Deckhand - 70m Motor Yacht

    We require a deckhand for a 70m Private MY currently based in the Mediterranean.

    The yacht will be staying in Malta for a couple of months before crossing the Atlantic to the Caribbean where it will be based over the winter. Once there they will cuising Antigua, the British Virgin Islands, US Virgin Islands, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas.

    The suitable candidate must hold a STCW95 and a valid seafarers medical.

    Chief Engineer - 40m Motor Yacht

    We require a Chief Engineer for a 40m motor yacht to start ASAP. The yacht will be in Turkey for the winter but will be based in the Mediterranean.

    The successful candidate must have a RIII/1 or RIII/3 (Y3) Chief Engineer CoC and a valid seafarer medical. This is a full time permanent position.

    Temporary Mate - 53m Motor Yachts

    We are looking for an experienced Mate to join a 53m Motor Yacht.

    The suitable candidate must have a valid STCW95 and a valid seafarers medical certificate and be avaliable immediately.

    The suitable candidate needs to be strong and able to hit the ground running therefore experience in a similar role is a must. The period covers the last few weeks of the owner's cruise and a yard period.

    Please be aware that this is a temporary position from the last week of September to the end of January.

    Chef - 72m Motor Yacht

    We are looking for a Chef to join a 72m Motor Yacht.

    The candidate must be female as they will be sharing with a female crew memeber.

    The candidate must hold a valid seafarers medical certificate and a STCW95 certificate.

    Chief Stewardess – 60m motor yacht

    We urgently require a Chief Stewardess (female because of cabin configuration) for a 60m motor yacht to join the yacht in Spain.

    Ideally the candidate will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience as Chief Stew and 1 year’s experience as Chief Stew on similar size vessels. The successful candidate must have all STCW95 basic training certificates and a valid seafarer medical. This is a full time permanent position.

    The yacht operates all year (Med in the summer and Asia in the winter). This is an MLC compliant yacht.

    Captain - 100+m Motor Yacht

    Looking for a Captain for a new build in N Europe on a 100+m yacht. The Owner is European. The yacht is being built to PYC regulations and therefore all crew will need to be merchant navy qualified.

    The delivery of the yacht is Spring 2015. The intended cruising areas are Med for the summer and a 2nd season elsewhere (will go where the charters are). The yacht will be a commercially functioning yacht with some charter as well as Owner use.

    Prefer not to have rotation Captains – will consider having Master Mariner qualified Master and Senior Deck Officers so they can all cover each other on leave. Approximately 8 weeks leave pa. Will consider various options if they meet the requirements of the Owner and for the right candidate.

    The Owner is loyal and habit forming is looking for the same from the crew.

    Looking for someone to start after the summer season.

    2nd Engineer - 50m Motor Yacht

    We require a 2nd Engineer for a 50m Motor Yacht currently based in Italy. The successful candidate must hold a MOEL or AEC certificate.

    The successful candidate must hold a STCW95 certificate, a valid seafarer medical, a valid Visa for US entry and have at least two years experience on Motor Yachts bigger than 45m.

    We are looking for a Engineers for various yachts within the Burgess fleet.
