Technical Superintendent, London

The role:-

A pivotal role as part of a small team providing technical support to a fleet of large yachts. Working with local management teams supporting technical issues on your assigned yachts, or as otherwise directed by the Fleet Technical Manager as follows.

Duties:-

  • Contribute to the development of and adhere to all approved technical, safety and security procedures.
  • Update technical contact information on company IT systems.
  • Manage relevant technical documentation.
  • Ensure classification requirements are met.
  • Provide interpretation of Class Rules and other relevant regulations.
  • Manage Class society block fee agreements.
  • Monitor class survey schedules and requirements.
  • Liaise with attending Class and Flag surveyors to ensure all items are dealt with satisfactorily.
  • Promote the effective use of Planned Maintenance Systems and appropriate conditioning monitoring techniques.
  • Assist with establishing Planned Maintenance Systems and ensure they contain all flag, class, builders, manufacturers and company requirements.
  • Review maintenance reports and provide feedback.
  • In partnership with the Yacht Manager, create a long term plan of major works.
  • Review all reported defects, analyse any significant defects and introduce measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Manage dry docking and refits.
  • Create refit specifications, shortlist suitable shipyards and submit tender documentation.
  • Compile yard submissions and create an estimated refit budget.
  • Review bids and select shipyards in conjunction with Yacht Manager.
  • Ensure all works have approval before proceeding.
  • Ensure a refit contract is in place and insurers have been notified.
  • Monitor refit costs, quality and schedule.
  • Keep project files up to date and administer any changes to specifications.
  • Ensure any changes to specifications have approval before proceeding.
  • Distribute any changes to specification to the relevant parties.
  • Attend on-board yacht or at shipyard for planning and progress meetings as required.
  • Following completion of each refit, evaluate execution of work and overall performance of shipyard & contractors and report to Fleet Technical Manager.
  • Provide technical and contractual support with warranty claims on completion of refit.
  • Provide round the clock support in the event of technical difficulties.
  • Duty manager rota and emergency response team participation.
  • Provide general technical and commercial advice and guidance.
  • Review any relevant manufacturer’s bulletins and service publications relating to on-board main machinery and ensure any remedial actions required are undertaken.
  • Process a variety of document submissions to flag and/or Class for approval.
  • Assist with requests for urgent spares and/or services supplies and manage the relevant logistics to the situation.
  • Provide Technical assistance with Insurance Claims.
  • Ensure an adequate lubricant and fuel oil sampling and analysis programme is adhered to.
  • Review analysis reports, provide advice as required ensuring any resulting actions are dealt with on a priority basis in line with maintenance or refit planning.
  • Ensure all yachts lifting gear is regularly inspected and certified.
  • Provide concise monthly Status reports for your assigned yachts to the Yacht Manager.
  • Undertake Technical Inspections on-board as required.
  • Ensure all items raised during inspections are clearly reported and followed up.
  • Ensure any costs related to Technical Management services have prior approval by the Yacht Manager.
  • Work in close co-operation with any appointed third party.

    The successful candidate will have the following attributes:-

  • Formal Education in Marine/Engineering/Naval studies to diploma or degree level
  • 5+ Years experience in a similar role, or,
  • 10 + Years Sea going experience in an engineering capacity to at least merchant Class 2 Level or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills, able to communicate effectively at all levels (dealing with Captains, Chief Engineers and colleagues)
  • IT skills, Computer literate with experience of using Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint. Use of Autocad/drawing packages beneficial but not essential. Must be familiar with the development and use of electronic planned maintenance systems. Familiarity with other company ERP systems also beneficial
  • Effective at problem solving and multi-tasking
  • Working knowledge of ISM
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Live within commuting distance of London
  • Good sense of humour
  • A self-starter capable of working independently but also as part of a busy team.

    Deckhand - 56m Motor Yacht

    We are looking for a Deckhand for a 56m private Motor Yacht based in the Mediterranean.

    The suitable candidates must have at least one years experience, hold a Yachtmaster Ocean certificate, an STCW95 and a valid seafarers medical.

    Chief Engineer - 54m Motor Yacht

    Burgess are recruiting a Chief Engineer with excellent AVIT experience to join a 54m motor yacht ASAP. The yacht is currently in Turkey and will be heading to the Caribbean for the winter season.

    This is a busy charter yacht with some owner usage. The successful candidate must hold a minimum of a Y2 Chief Engineer CoC (and an MCA CEC if CoC was not issued by MCA) and a valid seafarer medical.

    Chief Mate - 52m Motor Yacht

    Burgess are recruiting a Chief Mate to join a 52m Motor Yacht. The boat will be travelling to the Caribbean for the winter and then either back to the Mediterranean for the summer or on to Pacific.

    This is a busy private/charter yacht. The successful candidate will be a dedicated professional with proven longevity on similar busy boats and must hold a Chief Officer CoC and a valid seafarer medical certificate.

    Chief Stewardess / Purser - 72m Motor Yacht

    We require a Chief Stewardess / Purser to join a 72m charter Motor Yacht.

    The role is a leans more towards Purser while off charter and Chief Stewardess while guests are on board. If you are employed you will be solely in charge of all the vessels accounting and liaising directly with the owners office on all matters relating to the accounts. This is great exposure and gives you and good insight in the commercial operation of the vessel. During these periods you rely on your Second to lead the interior team. Of course on charter your role changes slightly.

    The successful candidate will hold an STCW95 and a valid medical certificate.

    Housekeeper - 68m Motor Yacht

    A Housekeeper is required for a 68m Charter Motor Yacht based in the Mediterranean.

    Chief Officer - 61m Motor Yacht

    We are looking for a Chief Officer to join a 61m Motor Yacht currently in the Mediterranean.

    Candidates must hold at least a Chief Officer CoC a valid STCW95 and ENG1 certificates and have proven longevity on yachts of a similar size.

    Chief Mate - 39m Motor Yacht

    Burgess is recruiting a Chief Mate for a 39m Motor Yacht.

    An OOW certificate is a must as well as a B1/B2 visa and an ECDIS certificate.

    The successful candidate will have an STCW95 and a valid ENG1 and be available immediately.

    Stewardess - 68m Motor Yacht

    We are looking for a Stewardess with high standards of service and keen eye for details for a 68m Private motor yacht. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic yacht and crew based in the Mediterranean.

    This position is to deputise for the Chief Steward during charters, the position will rotate along with the second stewardess.

    The successful candidate must hold a STCW95 certificate and a valid seafarer medical.

    EOOW - 56m Motor Yacht

    We require a EOOW for an Atlantic crossing on a 56m Motor Yacht. The yacht will be leaving approximately on the 10th of November arriving in Antigua on approximately the 25th of November.

    The candidate must hold at least a Y4 or a MEOL, an SCTW95 and a valid seafarer medical.

    Chief Mate - 48m Motor Yacht

    Burgess are recruiting a Chief Mate to join a 48m Motor Yacht currently in the Mediterranean.

    The successful candidate will be a dedicated professional with proven longevity on similar boats and must hold a Chief Officer CoC an STCW95 and a valid seafarer medical certificate.

    Captain - 100+m Motor Yacht

    Looking for a Captain for a new build in N Europe on a 100+m yacht. The Owner is European. The yacht is being built to PYC regulations and therefore all crew will need to be merchant navy qualified.

    The delivery of the yacht is Spring 2015. The intended cruising areas are Med for the summer and a 2nd season elsewhere (will go where the charters are). The yacht will be a commercially functioning yacht with some charter as well as Owner use.

    Prefer not to have rotation Captains – will consider having Master Mariner qualified Master and Senior Deck Officers so they can all cover each other on leave. Approximately 8 weeks leave pa. Will consider various options if they meet the requirements of the Owner and for the right candidate.

    The Owner is loyal and habit forming is looking for the same from the crew.

    2nd Engineer - 61m Motor Yacht

    We require a 2nd Engineer for a 61m Motor Yacht currently in the Mediterranean and will be traveling to Hong Kong for the winter. The successful candidate must hold a Y3 certificate and be available immediately.

    The successful candidate must hold a STCW95 certificate, a valid seafarer medical and have at least two years experience on Motor Yachts bigger than 45m.

    Chief Stewardess - Russian Speaking - 39m Motor Yacht

    We are looking for a Russian speaking Chief Stewardess for a 39m Motor Yacht.

    The suitable candidate must have experience as well as longevity on a similar size vessel and be available to join immediately. Additionally the candidate must hold a STCW95 basic training certificate and a valid seafarer medical certificate.
