SEA EAGLE I is a 43.3m (142ft) cutter-rigged performance sloop built in aluminium to Lloyd's classification and she is also MCA compliant. She was delivered in 2015 by the esteemed Dutch yard Royal Huisman with naval architecture by performance cruising legend Germán Frers and interiors by UK studio Rhoades Young Design. She underwent her five-year survey and a rig service earlier in 2020 at Huisfit and she presents in excellent condition.
She was designed to cruise the world in comfort but also have the performance to race in a Bucket regatta should her owner choose to indulge their competitive side. With that brief, Frers is the first name on the list of designers.
She has an easily driven hull with 4.5m (15ft) draft and a Rondal carbon fibre five spreader rig with in-boom furling. Standing rigging is Nitronic except for the Kevlar backstay and running rigging is Spectra and Kevlar by Gleistein. North Sails delivered her sail wardrobe and she has over 1,000sqm (10,760sqft) of sail area.
When cruising, guests will enjoy a variety of social spaces on board. These include cockpit lounges port and starboard outside the companionway shaded by the hardtop. Two steps lead up to a dining area shaded by a fixed awning between the twin helm stations.
Aft, down two steps, is a large sun lounge that also offers another option for al fresco dining. Her transom folds down to become a swim platform, revealing steps, and the steps lift to launch her 5.2m (17.1ft) Castoldi jet tender. There are also two sunpads on the forward coachroof.
Twin outboard helm stations manually operate a single fully balanced carbon fibre spade rudder using the Lewmar Mamba system. Both helm stations have excellent sightlines forward and sail handling switches fall easily to hand for both Rondal captive winches and Lewmar drum winches, as well as the throttles and autopilot, making shorthanded cruising a push button affair. Handholds fall readily to hand and the both cockpit lounges are line free for family friendly security.
Below, Rhoades Young has created a clean lined contemporary interior and ports in the Royal blue hull keep the spaces bright. Her deck saloon offers all round views and there is a formal dining area to starboard and a lounge area to port. A spiral staircase aft leads down to three of her four cabins, welcoming up to eight guests.
The aft cabin is a full beam twin cabin with L-shaped seating to port, a dressing room and private access from the aft deck. Forward are two twin cabins. Her fourth cabin is convertible and can be used as a twin cabin, a gym or a private office.
In calm weather her Caterpillar C18 diesel gives her a top speed of 15 knots and a range of 3,000nm at her cruising speed of 10 knots.
