Andrew joined Burgess in 2015 as a marine engineer in BTS after working as a freelance marine systems engineer. Previous contracts included a 93m luxury yacht, oil rigs, and a large hovercraft for the Korean Coastguard. Prior to this he delivered systems design and installation supervision for the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth; the largest vessel ever owned by the Royal Navy. Previously Andrew spent four years in heat-treatment furnace design and 10 years engineering turbomachinery, pumps, impellers and gas turbine blades. His career began with Shell (UK) tankers, sailing around the world as fifth engineer and spending extensive time in Japan and Malaysia. Andrew is an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, and in his spare time he enjoys cycling, reading, learning to play the piano and chauffeuring his teenagers to their various activities.
