FIVE MINUTES WITH CAPTAIN FRANCK LANGLAIS

Burgess caught up with the captain of 36.6m Benetti charter yacht AFRICAN QUEEN.

Captain: Franck Langlais
Years of experience: 30 years
Yacht: AFRICAN QUEEN

Favourite cruising ground
Corsica for natural park and beaches

Favourite anchorage
Scandola, Calvi and Bonifacio.

Best restaurant
Domaine de Murtoli. The two restaurants found at this quaint stone farm house on the south of Corisica offer good hearty homegrown cuisine. The Grotto is a natural cave which has been turned into a restaurant and serves locally sourced ingredients whereas The Beach serves freshly caught fish from local fishermen.

Why is AFRICAN QUEEN a great choice for Corsica?
The best beaches and coves are reached via the sea. On AFRICAN QUEEN we seek out private bays and beaches and then recommend our guests  explore via our tender or on the jetskis. Of course they are welcome to relax on deck or raid our full water toy chest too.

Any ‘fun facts’ about this destination?
Corsica is the fourth largest island in the Mediterranean. It is also known as the birthplace of Napoleon Bonapart. The colour of the sea is out-of-this-world and the beaches rival that of any desert island.

Best time to visit
Summer. When the weather is warm and there is a fun atmosphere.

Any top tips on what to see/do in the region
The list is endless here. We tend to recommend Scandola, Calvi, Bonifacio, Corsica, Sardaigne islands... and then the Italian islands of Elba, Giglio...
