The 54.4m (178.3ft) SHENANDOAH OF SARK is a three-masted gaff topsail schooner with a steel hull, teak decks, varnished deckhouses and beautiful original features throughout in addition to luxurious modern amenities. Commissioned by a US banker and designed by Theodore E Ferris, she was built at the Townsend & Downey shipyard on Shooter's Island on the border of New York and New Jersey. The yard delivered her in 1902 as a near-sistership to Kaiser Wilhelm's legendary schooner METEOR III, also built at the yard.

Her colourful ownership history includes royalty, financiers, industrialists, noblemen, governments and at one point, it is thought, smugglers. She has featured in Vogue, a Rod Stewart music video and circumnavigated countless times. She is, as she has always been, an irresistible draw for photographers' lenses at regattas across the world, from Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez to Superyacht Cups, Transatlantic Races to the America's Cup Jubilee Regatta.

Having survived two World Wars, she fell into disrepair during the 1960s before being restored in 1972 and beginning a Mediterranean charter career. After changing hands again she was comprehensively restored over a 10-year period by McMullen & Wing in New Zealand, including a new Martin Francis Design interior and guest cockpit for open-air dining. The project won her the Showboats International Best Classic Yacht Restoration award in 1997. In her current ownership she has been cherished with upgrades and refits during yard periods in 2004, 2009, 2016 and 2019. An MCA-coded yacht of 178GT, she presents in exquisite condition.

The focus of guest activity on deck, whether underway or at anchor, is the line-free, family-friendly cockpit, which has optional shade from removable awnings. Wide-open sidedecks provide countless options for relaxation and entertainment and a midships boarding ladder enables access in all conditions.

Down below she has plenty of ventilation and natural light thanks to butterfly skylights, decklights and portholes. A large saloon has a custom-gimballed formal dining table for 10 guests to starboard and a lounge to port with L-shaped sofa seating opposite a 55in TV. There is also a Linn stereo system and a baby grand piano.

She welcomes up to 10 guests in four cabins, including a full-beam owner's suite with king-size double and single beds and a large en suite. There is also an office area, yacht data via B&G instruments and a 'secret' door into the navigation station should the owner require any course corrections overnight. The three guests cabins are en suite doubles and one has an additional berth. She also sleeps up to 12 crew.

She has a customised Ribeye A600 guest tender with a Yamaha F115 outboard, a crew Zodiac and two Laser sailing dinghies. Her toy locker includes six sets of diving equipment and a Bauer compressor, two SeaBobs, a Fliteboard, kayaks, a selection of towable toys and four bicycles.

Her spars are Douglas Fir and Oregon Pine, and her standing rigging, by Spencer Rigging, is galvanised steel. She has 888sqm (9,558sqft) of sail area and her wardrobe is by Cowes sailmaker Ratsey & Lapthorn. During calms, twin 940hp Lugger diesel engines give her a top speed of 12 knots and a range of 3,250nm at her passage speed of nine knots.
