My world: Richard Branson

As Sir Richard Branson prepares to become the world’s first commercial astronaut, Burgess Superyacht Living & Style Magazine caught up with him to discuss his greatest yachting adventures.

Owner of the 32m CMN catamaran superyacht NECKER BELLE, Branson was always passionate about the sea. He started sailing as a child and, after purchasing Necker Island – his private island retreat in the British Virgin Islands – bought the luxury catamaran to explore the breadth of the Caribbean. It was on a NECKER BELLE cruise in 2012 that Branson swam with humpback whales in Silver Bank, Dominican Republic - an experience that he says he will never forget.

Recently offered for sale, the luxury yacht NECKER BELLE is designed to maximise fun, with an open-air cinema, diving board and a unique crow’s nest that puts guests right in the heart of the action. With beach club styling and accommodation for up to 10 guests, she has provided a home-from-home for Branson and his family.

A serial adventurer with a scientific interest in marine environments, Branson is working on a submarine project, Virgin Oceanic, which will travel to the unexplored depths of the world’s five oceans. He hopes to make a study of the biodiversity from the deepest point on the ocean floor, all the way to the surface.

Not content with travelling to the bottom of the earth, he wants to explore to the top and beyond, launching his commercial space flight company Virgin Galactic in 2004. A date is yet to be set for the first commercial flight.

Popular superyacht NECKER BELLE is available for sale and for luxury charter in the Caribbean, with an on board dive instructor and host of water toys for endless entertainment.
