Expert advice from Burgess: asking the right questions

With over 13 years’ experience as a charter broker, Amanda Armstrong from Burgess’ London office, suggests some considerations to take into account when chartering a yacht.

The choice of yachts available worldwide can seem daunting. You can rest assured that our highly experienced team of charter brokers across the globe has intimate knowledge of each and every yacht that we offer you.

We can refine the yacht choices to suit your style and what you would like to achieve during your charter; perhaps total isolation exploring small bays on an elegant sailing yacht, or alternatively being in the heart of the razzmatazz in St Tropez, Mykonos or St Barts on the latest 60m motor yacht. Styling also varies enormously and is a key element, whether you prefer motor or sailing, traditional or contemporary, explorer or high performance; let us find your ultimate yacht.

The crew are undoubtedly one of the most important elements of your charter. Chartering is a very intimate experience, so ensuring the crew are right for you and your guests is paramount. All the yachts offered by Burgess are fully crewed, with a permanent team ranging from the minimum of Captain, Chef, Chief Stewardess and deck crew on the smaller yachts, to a 1:1 ratio of crew to guests on the larger vessels.

We will help you choose the most suitable yacht with the right crew. A family charter with children perhaps requires a younger, more energetic crew. A high-profile corporate gathering would suggest a more refined level of service. Whatever your requirements, you can be confident that your crew will be professionally trained and the service will be beyond 5 star.

As one of the most exciting elements of your charter, having a chef who is finely tuned to your needs and tastes is a must. Many of the chefs on board have worked in the world’s finest restaurants, many of which are Michelin starred. Prior to the start of your charter, we work closely with you to ensure that every detail is catered for, from the children’s favourite snack, to the latest dietary trends and the finest wines available. Ask us about the chef on board: it is our job to know!

The list of amenities, toys, tenders and audio/visual equipment on board is often endless! A few suggestions that are worth considering:

Is there enough for you and your guests? A sun deck is a great place for catching some rays, but if you have small children or don’t want to be over-exposed to the sun, it is worth checking the set-up of outdoor spaces.

Well being
Many yachts have their own dedicated spa area, with a steam-room or sauna. Some yachts offer massage and beauty therapies on board, or alternatively perhaps let us arrange a personal trainer to accompany you for your trip. This is your chance to escape and totally unwind.

Watertoys: whether you love waverunners, prefer to hone your waterskiing skills, or would rather just relax whilst the children play in the inflatable play park, the choices are limitless! If you have specific requirements, such as diving, dinghy sailing, or trying out the latest watersports gadget, just let us know and we will make it happen.

Fine tuning
Home cinema or Playstation? Teppanyaki grill or a fine wine selection? An elevator or Jacuzzi? Whatever your pleasure, your Burgess charter broker will make your next charter an unforgettable experience.
