2011 was a record year for Burgess and despite tough trading conditions in the superyacht industry over the past three years, all divisions of the company have prospered. To keep pace with its growing business, BURGESS has recently supplemented its already highly experienced workforce of over 130 professionals with some of the very best people in superyachting, confident that their strong reputation among yacht owners, charterers, captains and commentators will further enhance the client service levels offered by BURGESS.

The American arm of Burgess is gearing up for a busy year, with the appointment of Matt Emerson as Director for the Americas. Previously President of Camper & Nicholsons USA, the recruitment of this much-respected and senior industry figure demonstrates the commitment of BURGESS to the US market on both the east and west coasts. In his new role at BURGESS, based out of its Manhattan office, Matt takes responsibility for developing new sales, charter and management opportunities not only in North America, but across Latin America. Also recently recruited to the New York office is Yacht Manager Andy McNab, whose appointment was prompted by the growing number of US-owned superyachts under BURGESS operational management. Andy is a well-known figure in the industry, with extensive yacht building and yacht management experience, including seven years as Director of Yacht Management at MCM in Newport, Rhode Island.

Not only is BURGESS committed to investing in its overall US operation, recruiting the best people to move the company forward, but four new Charter Managers have also recently joined the charter division to support the development of a fleet of superyachts which is already the most impressive in the industry. In Monaco, Charter Manager Sonia Palfrey has joined from Camper & Nicholsons, where she was Director of Charter Management for 9 years. With over 30 years experience in the global superyacht industry, Sonia's career spans roles at Bartram & Brakenhoff, her own management business and joint ownership of the charter management agency V.E.B. Nicholson & Sons in Newport, Rhode Island. Also appointed to charter management roles in Monaco are Britta Ax and Jenny Burgess. Britta previously worked as a Charter Manager with Camper and Nicholsons for 6 years and has a wealth of specialist experience in managing superyacht charters. Jenny managed a portfolio of over 20 charter yachts worldwide for nearly 5 years as a Charter Manager, also with Camper and Nicholsons. In the Miami office, Charmaine du Plessis brings experience from superyacht companies, Merle Wood & Associates and International Yacht Collection, and has taken up her role as Charter Manager to support the growing number of US owners with yachts under the BURGESS charter management programme.
