Le Beauvallon – The Belle Époque Palace on the bay of St Tropez

Superyachts are wonderful for entertaining but for luxury on a larger scale set your sights on the glamorous Côte d’Azur residence Le Beauvallon.

It may not be a superyacht, although it does bear a passing resemblance to the grand ocean liners of a bygone era. And you won’t find this gem in a smart marina or secluded anchorage.  Instead, surrounded by the heady scents and sounds of the French Riviera, it stands magnificently atop a hill between Sainte-Maxime and Port Grimaud, from where it commands breath-taking views across the bay towards Saint-Tropez.

This is Le Beauvallon, and, at 100 years old the last Belle-Époque palace remaining in its original form as hôtel particulier.  Completely upgraded and partially rebuilt in recent years, it is now a private hotel residence, available on an exclusive basis for you and your guests to use for as long as you wish.

A century ago F. Scott Fitzgerald described this area as “the hot sweet south of France” and some even believe he wrote part of Tender Is The Night at Le Beauvallon. The region has long drawn high society to its shores and this heritage remains evident today. Reinventing the estate for the 21st century, the owners have breathed new life into its walls with an astounding collection of modern art arranged, as with every aspect of the property, according to the principles of Feng Shui. The effect is extraordinary: one of space, harmony and vitality.

Le Beauvallon provides the highest levels of privacy: its pristine terraces and manicured lawns lead down to a magnificently-appointed beach club with a vast pool, shady pavilions, private beach and jetty from where the Fjord limousine tender will whisk you directly to the centre of Saint-Tropez.

There is only one rule at Le Beauvallon and that is to make yourself at home.  The house staff run the property to the standards of a superyacht and are always on hand to serve, while an exceptional team of chefs will satisfy even the most well-travelled palate at any hour.

The days can be as action-packed or relaxing as you choose. Sunbathe on the terrace, unwind with a massage in the spa, lounge in the pool, then have lunch set up under a shady tree.

The more active can hit the high-tech gym, take a turn in the yoga and dance studio or simply explore the gardens. Further afield try paragliding above the bay, indulge in a Provençal wine-tasting or head to the village of Grasse to learn the age-old secrets of the perfumeries.  And above all take to the water – aboard the Fjord, exploring the coastline down to Monaco, or the ZAR to bask on Saint-Tropez’s renowned beaches.

And when it’s time to return home, there are drinks on Le Beauvallon’s terrace overlooking the sparkling lights of the bay, a spectacular dinner and delightful company to look forward to. The South of France doesn’t get much better than this – unless, of course, you are on a superyacht.
