What is the best time of year to charter a yacht in Belize?
The best time to charter a yacht in Belize is during the dry season, from November to May, when conditions are ideal for cruising, snorkelling, and diving. These months offer warm temperatures, low humidity, and calm seas across the Belize Barrier Reef.
March to May is particularly popular, combining excellent visibility underwater with quieter anchorages before the summer rains begin. Yacht charters are possible year-round, but September and October are typically avoided due to the peak of the hurricane season.
Where do Belize yacht charters usually start?
Most Belize yacht charters start from Belize City, home to the country’s main international airport and key marinas. From here, yachts can easily access the offshore cayes and the Belize Barrier Reef.
Some charters may also begin from Placencia, particularly for itineraries focused on southern Belize, offering direct cruising to quieter reefs, islands, and marine reserves.
Do I need a visa to charter a yacht in Belize?
Many visitors do not need a visa to enter Belize for tourism, including travellers from the UK, EU, USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, who are typically granted entry on arrival for stays of up to 30 days.
Passport validity and onward travel requirements apply, and visa regulations can vary by nationality, so it’s always advisable to check the latest entry requirements before travel. Your charter broker or local agent can also assist with formalities ahead of arrival.
