Burgess partners with Water Revolution Foundation

We are thrilled to announce this new partnership, through which we are actively working to reduce the environmental impact of the superyacht industry.
This collaboration highlights a significant step in Burgess’ ongoing efforts to reduce the environmental impact of yachting operations and to champion sustainable business.
Established in 2018, Water Revolution Foundation is the superyacht industry’s leading platform for collective action on ocean stewardship. With a mission to safeguard the ocean and neutralise the industry’s environmental footprint, Water Revolution Foundation brings together diverse players across the sector to collaborate on a clear path to net zero by 2050.
Building on this, our partnership will focus on practical measures to promote more sustainable yacht operations and mitigate the environmental impact of a yacht. Our collaborative approach to the foundation’s vital work includes the Sustainable Seas programme – an evolution of Water Revolution Foundation’s Environmental Crew Guidelines – which helps crews to reduce their operational impact by delivering a practical framework through Burgess yacht management software.
Similarly, Burgess is supporting the development of Water Revolution Foundation’s Yacht Environmental Transparency Index (YETI), which is designed to assess the entire lifecycle of used energy carriers (fuels and shore power), with feedback from our operational, technical and new construction teams, led by Ed Beckett – Senior Partner, Naval Architect, and Head of Semi-Custom Yachting at Burgess.
The foundation’s new Ocean Assist Programme is a critical step on the industry’s road to net zero. Backed by science, aligned with the UN sustainable development goals and externally certified by RINA, Ocean Assist goes beyond ‘offsets’ and directs funds to urgent marine restoration projects, ensuring support goes where it is most needed. Importantly, the units can be used in official sustainability reporting. Currently it is the only blue economy investment mechanism specifically for superyachts and the businesses forming the yachting industry, and we look forward to supporting its rollout among our community.
To the foundation and the wider yachting industry, we recognise that this partnership marks an important step. ‘The idea of business as usual is not enough,’ notes Georgina Menheneott, partner and head of Burgess’ sustainability programme.
‘We have a responsibility to protect the ocean where we work and play, and our leadership team recognises this. Not only does this new partnership confirm Burgess’ commitment and practical work to support Water Revolution Foundation, but it collectively drives our industry towards a more sustainable, resilient, and viable platform that’s fit for the challenges of the 21st century.’
