Let us organise your perfect French Riviera yacht charter itinerary.
Our expert brokers possess an intimate knowledge of these cruising grounds, with personal first-hand experience coupled with up-to-the-minute local knowledge. Your itinerary will be meticulously tailored to deliver the precise experience you’re looking for.
New to charter?
Whether you are looking for a 70m motor private yacht to cruise St Lucia or have your heart set on a fun-filled Grecian sailing charter, we are on hand to guide you every step of the way.I've never chartered before, where do I start?
It all starts with a quick conversation with one of our experienced brokers, where our team will find out a little more about the charter you’re looking for, asking questions such as the number of guests, your desired destinations, and your preferred activities.
Based on your answers, we’ll shortlist yachts of a style, size, and capability – from motor yachts to catamarans and sailing yachts to explorers – that match your preferences and suggest bucket-list cruising grounds.
How many guests can be on board?
Most yachts can comfortably accommodate 8 to 12 guests, depending on their length. For larger groups, some yachts built to the Passenger Yacht Code (PYC) can host up to 36 guests – these yachts are usually above 80m (260ft) long. For quayside events, yachts can accommodate a greater number of people on board provided they remain in port.
Why do I need a charter broker? Why can’t I book direct?
Planning seamless charter experiences requires specialist knowledge, a reliable network of contacts both on board and on the ground, in-depth knowledge of yachts, crews and cruising grounds, as well as legal contracts and local regulations to build an experience that suits you perfectly. And should anything unexpected arise — from last-minute yacht changes to shifting local conditions — your broker is your advocate, ready with solutions and a plan B to keep your holiday on course.
Creating the unforgettable is what we do at Burgess. It’s what our knowledge, experience and passion are all about. We take all the hassle out of the planning so all you have to do is turn up and have the best holiday of your life.
I have a few allergies, how can I let the yacht know about these and also about my preferences?
Several weeks before your charter begins, you’ll receive a detailed questionnaire covering the preferences and special requirements of everyone in your party – from dietary requirements to medical needs, allergies and any special requests such as birthdays or entertainment. This helps us and the crew of your yacht to make sure your charter experience is exactly as you envision.
What are the must-see destinations in the French Riviera?
The Cote d’Azur offers an incredible mix for yacht charterers. If you’re looking to take in the region’s glamour and vibrant culture, destinations such as Monaco, Cannes, and Saint-Tropez are essential, boasting iconic harbours, world-class dining, and luxury shopping destinations – all easily accessible from the water. For a more tranquil escape, the idyllic island of Porquerolles offers unspoilt natural beauty and peaceful anchorages. The picturesque town of Villefranche-sur-Mer also offers a beautiful, sheltered bay for a serene overnight stay.
Can I attend events like the Cannes Film Festival or Monaco Grand Prix on a yacht?
Yes. Many charter guests plan their itinerary around the region’s extensive list of iconic events such as the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix. While securing a prime berth for these events requires booking well in advance due to high demand, your charter broker will work with you to manage the details and handle any necessary permits or passes.
Are there any anchoring restrictions in the French Riviera?
There are anchoring restrictions in protected marine areas and, importantly, over sensitive seagrass beds (known as Posidonia meadows). Rest assured, your captain is well-versed in local regulations and will ensure full compliance while still taking you to some of the finest locations the French Riviera has to offer.
How busy does the Cote d’Azur get during the peak season?
The French Riviera experiences its peak season between July and August, with popular towns, cities and marinas becoming quite crowded. Additionally, events such as the Monaco Grand Prix and the Cannes Film Festival held earlier in the spring also draw a vast number of visitors. Booking your yacht charter, along with any desired destinations and event access, well in advance is crucial to guarantee the best experience.
What’s the weather like in the French Riviera during charter season?
The charter season runs from May to September, with July and August being the warmest and most popular months. Expect long sunny days, temperatures between 25–40°C (77–104°F), and calm seas – ideal conditions for cruising, swimming, and al fresco dining. May and September are slightly cooler, between 16–25°C (60–77°F), but a lot quieter, offering excellent conditions for guests seeking a more relaxed atmosphere.
