Ben has spent over a decade at Burgess, initially in the brokerage department, before moving across to charter in 2013 where he developed his new business, strategy and charter management knowledge and skills. In 2020, he was appointed Head of Charter Management, becoming one of the youngest Partners within the firm at one of the most difficult periods of the company’s history. Two years later he took over the Retail Charter department, becoming Head of Charter.
 
‘Stepping into a leadership role just as Covid hit was an incredibly steep learning curve, but proved invaluable for honing my problem-solving skills,’ he says.

Ben’s ability to build strong commercially focused international relationships has led him to manage some of the most prestigious and well-known superyachts on the global charter market, yet he also takes great pride in his success building the Burgess charter team.

'I'm not afraid of change, and when planning for the future the aim is to keep the Burgess charter department well ahead of the game.'

In 2024 Ben’s role was broadened to Sales and Charter Director, where he is now responsible for overseeing the majority of commission related business at Burgess in both the Brokerage and Charter teams. In this role he manages a combined team of almost 100, with a view to developing the strategic growth of Burgess’ market leading sales teams. In his role as Senior Partner, he encourages collaboration between departments, from direct sales to effective marketing, and believes Burgess’ teamwork culture has built an in-house network and environment of seamless information sharing.

In taking a business approach to charter management, Ben encourages owners to adopt a flexible attitude. It’s resulted in multiple yachts within the Burgess charter fleet more than covering their running costs, and in some rare cases, making substantial profits.

Ben grew up on England’s Norfolk coast where he learned to sail, windsurf and kitesurf. Naturally competitive from a young age, he was even won national titles in Freestyle Windsurfing, which Ben acknowledges is very much a previous life now!
