About Tim

Tim joined Burgess as a sales broker in 1996, bringing with him the discipline and precision of a nine-year career as an officer in the Royal Marines, where he specialised in amphibious warfare. His transition into the world of yachting was swift and successful, selling his first yacht within four months. By 2000, he had become a company director, and in 2005, an owning partner. Today, he applies a military ethos to his role as managing partner, combining strategic leadership with a deep respect for the sea and the customer.

Tim's expertise extends far beyond sales. An accomplished sailor, he has competed at an international level and holds a Yachtmaster Instructor qualification. Over the years as sales director, he played a pivotal role in some of the most significant superyacht brokerage transactions in the industry, positioning himself as Burgess’ ‘commercial backstop.’ His portfolio also includes various landmark new construction projects such as the 133m AL MIRQAB, 113m LE GRAND BLEU, 180m AZZAM (the world's largest yacht), 97m VAVA II, 93m LADY S, and 109m BRAVO EUGENIA. ‘Assisting owners to pull together the right team to build their dreams is one of the greatest journeys we can have in this industry. It is a huge puzzle, but when done well and when the owner is happy, it's a real privilege.’

While Tim's brokerage acumen is widely recognised, as managing partner now leading the business' strategy his problem-solving abilities and broad industry insight have been instrumental in shaping the company’s professional services and driving the exponential growth of its management and new construction divisions, now regarded as the industry's gold standard. His global vision led him to spearhead the development of the Burgess sales team in the United States and establish the company’s presence in Asia.

One of his proudest achievements is the creation of the Burgess Partnership Scheme, a cornerstone of the company’s culture and future growth. ‘I’ve always liked organisations where the strongest employees are stakeholders,’ he explains.

While passionate about the yachting industry and the incredible opportunities it affords to both owners and those working in it, Tim is very aware of the social and environmental pressures that the industry faces. As such, he is committed that Burgess takes a leadership position, together with innovative yacht owners, in ensuring that a lighter footprint and purpose play a significant role in the future of yachting.
