Malcolm is a marine electrical engineer in the Burgess Technical Services team. Prior to joining Burgess in 2015 he spent eight years specialising in the approval of marine electrical and automation systems at ABS. He started his career as an avionics technician in the Royal Air Force, working on Lightning fighters and VC10 transport aircraft. During this time, he developed a passion for sailing, representing the RAF at offshore sailing on a number of occasions. Upon leaving the RAF he worked for Garmin, then joined BOADICEA at Amels as the electronics officer during the build period and for a busy first season.

Following this he spent two years as a project engineer with Destiny Yachts in Fort Lauderdale, then returned to the UK in 2003 to work as a contractor at HM Dockyard Devonport as ship’s liaison officer on board HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark during busy maintenance periods. Relocating briefly to the Netherlands in 2006, he worked on yacht projects for two major electrical contractors before returning to the UK in 2007 to join ABS.

Due to his service in the Royal Air Force during the Cold War, Malcolm is a passionate supporter of Ukraine during the current crisis and has developed a close relationship with the Kyiv Independent news organisation, travelling regularly to Kyiv to visit them and simultaneously volunteer at the Murashky Foundation who prepare in excess of 10,000 compact meals per month for soldiers on the front line.
