Matthew began his seagoing career with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service in 2000, later serving on a variety of passenger and cargo vessels while achieving accreditation as an unlimited Master Mariner. In 2010 he transitioned to the yachting industry, gaining experience aboard numerous high-profile yachts operating across the globe.

He joined Burgess in 2018 as a Yacht Manager, quickly gaining deep insight into the company’s world-leading superyacht fleet. Matthew’s career progressed when he assumed the role of Compliance and Safety Manager and Designated Person Ashore (DPA). In this role, he serves as a vital link between seafarers and senior management, overseeing the integrity and continual evolution of the Company Safety Management System. His focus is ensuring that yachts are operated safely and in full compliance with legal requirements, providing a secure environment for both guests and crew. Matthew leads the safety and compliance team, which prides itself on its commitment to quality, integrity, and efficiency.

Matthew lives in the High Weald of East Sussex with his family.
