An array of exciting and action-packed sailing regattas are held each year, with superyachts flocking to various destinations to participate and watch the events unfold. Whether you're after a trophy or are just there for the social events that surround each regatta, there's an array of events all the way from Antigua to Palma.

With a blend of long-running classics and up-and-coming entries, our 2026 sailing regattas guide has it all.

March

Superyacht Challenge Antigua

3–8 March 2026

Held annually in Nelson's Dockyard, the four-day invitational event is open to sailing vessels over 30m (98ft). Expect daily pursuit races plus an optional race around Antigua, with the start and finish lines just off English Harbour. There are three classes – buccaneers, corsairs and privateers – all competing under the ORC Superyacht Rule.

Heineken Regatta

5–8 March 2026

The St Maarten Heineken Regatta will celebrate its 46th edition in 2026. While not as notable as its Caribbean counterparts like the St Barth’s Bucket, it is in fact the largest regatta in the Caribbean. From Olympic medallists to holidaymakers, sailors are offered a mix of races to suit each class.

St Barths Bucket Regatta

12–15 March 2026

The St Barths Bucket Regatta 2026 is an annual boat race with parties as big as the sailing yachts. A much-anticipated highlight on the Caribbean yachting calendar, here the island’s laid-back vibe marries with some serious racing action. While the Bucket’s origins were recreational at best, today the rules are stricter. A minimum of 40m must be kept between boats, and a pursuit race format must be kept where each yacht is assigned its own start time. But none of that distracts from the fact that the St Barth Regatta is a seriously fun event to attend.

April

Antigua Sailing Week

22–26 April 2026

A four-day destination sailing experience, Antigua Sailing Week 2026 will see participants circumnavigate Antigua’s stunning coastline. With anticipated excellent sailing conditions and welcome events at each destination, it’s a complete experience both on the water and ashore.

May

Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta

26–30 May 2026

Organised by Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, the Sardinian superyacht regatta is back for a fourth year with Giorgio Armani as its title sponsor. Open to yachts with a minimum length of 24m (78ft), particular highlights include a Giorgio Armani Mare pop-up boutique in Piazza Azzurra, a gala dinner at the yacht club, and the return of the Southern Wind Rendezvous and Trophy. A new Corinthian Spirit division will debut this year for yachts with a cruising setup, reducing the need for professional racers on board.

Loro Piana Giraglia

12–20 June 2026

This annual regatta is hosted in early June by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda on northeastern Sardinia, surrounded by the stunning La Maddalena archipelago. There are two classes: one for monohulled superyachts, another for multihulls. Things kick off with four days of inshore racing in the waters of Saint-Tropez, culminating with the start of the offshore leg along the classic 241 mile triangle route from Saint-Tropez to Giraglia to Genoa.

The longest running regatta in Europe, the Superyacht Cup Palma is located at the Real Club Nautico de Palma, Mallorca. Cowes Week

1–7 August 2026

Frequently asked questions
What are the major sailing regattas taking place in 2026?

The 2026 sailing calendar features an exciting mix of iconic and emerging events across both hemispheres. The Caribbean regatta season 2026 kicks off the year with winter sailing events such as the Superyacht Challenge Antigua, the St Maarten Heineken Regatta and the St Barths Bucket, attracting some of the world’s finest sailing yachts.

As the year progresses, attention shifts to Mediterranean sailing regattas 2026, forming the backbone of the European regatta calendar. Highlights include the Superyacht Cup Palma, Loro Piana Giraglia, Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez – all set against world-class cruising grounds and vibrant social scenes.

When is the sailing regatta season in 2026?

The sailing regatta season in 2026 broadly follows the traditional cruising patterns. The Caribbean regatta season 2026 runs from February through April, aligning with the winter sailing calendar and offering ideal trade-wind conditions.

The peak sailing season then moves to Europe, with Mediterranean regattas taking place from May through October. This split allows owners and guests to enjoy competitive sailing year-round, following the sun between winter and summer sailing hotspots.

Are there major sailing regattas in Europe during summer 2026?

Yes – summer 2026 is packed with high-profile European regattas. Events such as the Superyacht Cup Palma, Copa del Rey, Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez are among the most prestigious on the calendar.

These regattas are also popular for yacht charter for regattas, whether joining the fleet or attending as a spectator. Many owners opt for luxury yacht charter events that combine front-row viewing with exclusive shore-side social programmes.

Can you watch a sailing regatta from a yacht?

Absolutely. Watching a regatta from a yacht offers an unrivalled perspective on the racing, placing you right on the course alongside the competing fleet. A regatta viewing yacht allows guests to enjoy the action in comfort while moving between prime vantage points throughout the day.

This style of on-the-water spectating is especially popular at events like the St Barths Bucket, Superyacht Cup Palma and Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, where the racing and social atmosphere are equally compelling.

Do sailing regattas get busy, and should I plan in advance?

Yes – major sailing regattas are among the busiest periods in the yachting calendar. Berths, anchorages, charter yachts and shore-side events often book out well in advance, particularly during peak Mediterranean summer months and popular Caribbean winter events.

Planning early ensures the best choice of yachts, prime viewing locations and seamless access to regatta-week social events. Whether racing, chartering or spectating, early preparation is key to getting the most out of the 2026 regatta season.
