Description
SONG OF THE SEA is a Swan 112. She’s a 34-metre (112ft) fast cruising sloop from the esteemed Nautor shipyard with a deckhouse and hardtop bimini. Designed by Germán Frers, she is constructed in high-spec composites to Bureau Veritas classification and was delivered in 2002. She has a fixed draught of 4.5m (14ft 9in) with a lead ballast bulb on a steel keel fin.
The deck plan includes a large sunpad on the foredeck, which is a vast and fully flush expanse of 5mm thick laid teak, and a secure passenger cockpit with secure, high coamings, two L-shaped built-in sofas around twin tables and ample shade. It’s partially separated from the twin-helm steering cockpit, which has full hydraulic sailing controls. There are another two sunpads on the aft deck and a garage for a large jet tender in her stern, which has a fold-out platform.
Her classic interior is styled by Dick Young and designed to host up to eight guests in four cabins, with four crew. The deckhouse is her main saloon with bar, lounge and dining areas, plus an inside pilot station. The master suite is a full-beam cabin located aft on the lower deck with a forward-facing bed flanked by sofas on both sides, a study desk and en suite bathroom with teak and marble finish. She also has two twin-bed guest cabins with en suite bathrooms and extra Pullman bunks, also located aft, a single cabin forward of the deckhouse and crew’s quarters in the bow.
A new mainsail and jib were supplied in 2021 by Quantum Sails. She also has an A3 asymmetric spinnaker, a Code Zero, a spare main and jib, plus a trysail and staysail for heavy weather sailing.
Her rig was fully serviced in 2015. The four-spreader mast and furling boom are built in pre-preg carbon fibre by Southern Spars and supported by solid rod Navtec rigging. She has hydraulic sailing controls powered by a ring system with four different power sources and joystick controls on her twin helm pedestals. The headsail is on a Reckmann RF-90 furler and the main halyard, mainsheet, jib sheets and runners are all on Rondal captive reel winches, mounted under the deck and in deck lockers. All running rigging was recently replaced and upgraded.
Under power, her single 414hp MTU diesel engine drives a feathering, variable pitch propeller and gives a cruising speed of 10kts with 12.5kts top speed and a maximum range of 3,000 miles. Hydraulic bow and stern thrusters enable precise manoeuvring in port.
