Leeward Islands

The Leeward Islands, scattered over 150 miles from Anguilla to Dominica, are fascinatingly diverse. St Martin/Sint Maarten, part Dutch, part French, offers golden beaches, good nightlife, restaurants, casinos and shopping. Laid back Anguilla has the whitest beaches and translucent water. St Barth is the ‘it’ island with red-tiled roofs, French cuisine and high end boutiques. Antigua is famous for its 365 beaches and Nelson’s Dockyard in English Harbour, the prettiest and most historic harbour in all of the Caribbean.

Insider's guide

Gaze dreamily at paradise, watch dolphins play at the bow, ride horses in the surf and sand of Guadeloupe, snorkel with a rainbow of fish in Antigua, explore nature on St Kitts' Mount Liamuiga Trail and indulge in some designer boutique shopping in St Barth.

The vessels may be different to those in Nelson's time but he would recognise English Harbour instantly. Explore the history, head to Jacqui O's Beach House for lunch then up to Shirley Heights to take in the sunset.
