James joined the Royal Navy in 1989. Over a career spanning 13 years, he trained as a Warfare Officer and ship’s navigator on board Type 22 and Type 23 frigates, before being appointed as Captain of HMS ARCHER of the First Patrol Boat Squadron. James joined Burgess in 2005 and in 2019 was made Partner.

James’ career at Burgess began as a sales broker for superyachts. He enjoyed 13 years working with both buyers and sellers across the world, successfully securing the sales of multiple high-profile vessels including motor yachts ECSTASEA, CAKEWALK and 90m classic yacht NERO.

‘I was aware of the superyacht industry prior to joining Burgess, but hadn’t appreciated the scale of it,’ he says. ‘What attracted me to Burgess most of all was their strong reputation as industry leaders, and the team centred approach and culture that really stands Burgess out from the competition.’

In 2019, James was appointed Head of Retail Charter, managing the company’s global team of industry-leading charter brokers, before moving into his current role as Head of New Business in 2022. He brings a military professionalism to the company, helping to create a structured environment across all departments that centres around organisation, leadership and delivering exceptional client services, complemented by his ability to excel under pressure.

We take care of every aspect of asset management, to allow clients to enjoy yacht ownership, making the most of their time on board with family and friends and creating the most incredible memories.’
