THREE WINS AT THE WORLD SUPERYACHT AWARDS

AQUILA, JOY and CHASSEUR reigned supreme at the 2017 World Superyacht Awards.

Burgess is delighted to announce that three of its managed yachts have each won the highly coveted Neptune Award in separate categories at a glitzy gala held in Florence, Italy on 13 May, 2017.

Firstly in the Refitted Yachts category, 85.6m AQUILA saw off seven competitors to be awarded the title of Best Refitted Yacht 2017. An ambitious refit, even in today’s standards, AQUILA’s owners took an existing yacht, CAKEWALK and reconfigured her to match their anticipated use and interior tastes. Where most would choose to wait the five years to build from new, AQUILA emerged from the shipyard after just 12 months.  Pendennis Shipyard, UK carried out the bulk of the work with interior styling undertaken by Redman Whiteley Dixon and Susan Young.

The highly anticipated launch of 2016 was the 70m Feadship JOY, she took the title of Best Displacement Motor Yacht Between 500GT and 1,499GT and it’s easy to see why. Her finely tuned combination of pioneering design, technical excellence and first rate construction managed to grab the attention of the judges to ward off other competitors in this category. JOY received recognition for her clever use of space including the use of ‘winter gardens’ on three of the decks to maximise interior volume when closed, and allow for added al fresco living in balmy weather. Royal Van Lent at Feadship saw her designs come to life with Studio Indigo penning her vibrant interior.

In a unique twist of fate, CHASSUER, although not topping her category received the accolade of Judges’ Special Award for Achievement. Delivered in September 2016, the judges believed CHASSEUR worthy due to her top rate quality following a difficult build period. As the first yacht to emerge from the newly reopened US shipyard CHRISTENSEN, the judges took note of her seaworthy GRP hull powered by twin 1,650hp Caterpillar engines which allows a top speed of 16 knots and a respectable range of 4,000 nm while cruising at 10 knots. Her sleek lines and vibrant tri-deck interior also caught the judges’ attention.

Burgess would like to congratulate all yachts and the tremendous work undertaken by the talented build teams in all cases.
