BURGESS TECHNICAL SERVICES LURSSEN-BUILT AZZAM PROJECT NOW RANKS AS THE WORLD’S LARGEST PRIVATE YACHT

The launch, on 5 April 2013, of the spectacular 180 metre motor yacht AZZAM by Lurssen Yachts, represents a significant milestone in the superyacht industry. Conceived for cruising in warm shallow waters, the vessel is an innovative and ground-breaking megayacht with fast speed capabilities, highly sophisticated facilities and an unprecedented degree of luxury.

Burgess Technical Services was appointed as the owner’s technical consultants and project managers in the very initial stages of design to develop the brief and commission the build. Technical engineering was developed by Lurssen, with exterior design by Nauta Yachts and interior design by Christophe Leoni. The Burgess technical team partook in tank testing, plan approval, all main machinery testing and provided on site supervision, while also advising and interfacing with both exterior and interior designers throughout the project.

Jonathan Beckett, CEO of Burgess says “We are very proud to be so closely associated with the superyacht world’s most extraordinary and unique project in our capacity as Owner’s technical consultants and project managers. The construction of AZZAM – with her highly complex technical credentials – has been extremely demanding and challenging. I know that I speak for all the professionals and many experts involved in saying that the project has been a superlative team effort which has resulted in an incredible testimony to the Owner’s vision and imagination.”
