WORLD’S LARGEST PRIVATE YACHT AZZAM IS DELIVERED
The spectacular 180m motor yacht AZZAM, built by Lurssen Yachts, created a stir not only in the superyacht industry when she was launched in April, but across the globe. Officially ranked as the largest private yacht in the world, AZZAM has now been successfully delivered to her owner.
In addition to her unprecedented scale, the vessel’s innovative design, sophisticated facilities and complex technical specification set a benchmark in superyachting. AZZAM is powered by a combination of twin diesel engines and gas turbines, delivering the capability to reach speeds of over 30 knots.
Working under the guidance of the owner’s representative, Burgess Technical Services was appointed as the owner’s technical consultants and project managers in the very initial stages of design, to develop the brief and commission the build. Technical engineering was developed by Lurssen, with exterior design by Nauta Yachts and interior design by Christophe Leoni.
The Burgess technical team partook in tank testing, plan approval, all main machinery testing and provided on site supervision, while also advising and interfacing with both exterior and interior designers throughout the project. Team leader Ray Steele, Director of Burgess Technical Services said:
"AZZAM is the pinnacle of innovation, ranging from her propulsion to both her electronic and communications systems.”
Jonathan Beckett, CEO of Burgess said: “It has been a real privilege to act as owner’s technical consultants and project managers on the development and construction of this extraordinary project over the last four years.
"With a vessel of this magnitude and complex technical credentials many challenges were encountered along the way, but the phenomenal team effort from all the professionals involved in the project has resulted in a milestone of yachting history.”
