Three good news stories – communities creating change
A conservation community
This year, we helped raise more funds than ever before for ocean conservation and regeneration. Clients, managers, Burgess brokers and beyond – we all leaned in. Our support to Blue Marine Foundation on the Greek island of Amorgos has helped deliver national protection for the local region and island community.
The waves from AMORGORAMA are already having an impact with a Presidential Decree officially being passed this summer establishing Fisheries Restricted Areas around the island, introducing year-round fishing bans in designated zones and seasonal restrictions during peak spawning periods (1 April–31 May). These ripples will begin to spread around Greece and out across the Mediterranean.
As we pass the halfway point if the UN Ocean Decade, this feels like a significant milestone and a powerful reminder that collective action really does matter. Thank you to everyone for being part of it.
A crew community
Our Caribbean Crew scholarship has gone from a strong start in 2024 to an even stronger 2025. An initiative to help young Caribbean nationals build careers in the superyacht industry in collaboration with the Antigua and Barbuda Sailing Association and Ondeck Maritime Training, our first two candidates have had great success gaining work on board yachts. Junella is moving from support yacht to race crew on the WALLY CENTO V programme and Jahmarly is putting his yachting skills to work in the local charter market. And our newest candidates, Curtis and Shazeda, are already following suit having gained invaluable experience on Burgess fleet yachts.
Our partnership with UKSA (United Kingdom Sailing Association) is deeper and more impactful than ever, with the Monaco Yacht Show cadet collaboration setting a strong benchmark. In a great crossover moment, the UKSA cadet coordinator spent a day working alongside our Caribbean Crew at the Antigua Show.
Through the Caribbean Crew scholarship and our partnership with UKSA, we are helping to create tangible career opportunities for the next generation of maritime talent.
A collaborative community
In 2025, we began convening the LYBRA Environmental Committee, bringing together leading management and brokerage firms to support the work of Water Revolution Foundation – the industry’s leading, non-profit platform for collective action on ocean stewardship. Together, we’re building a clearer understanding of the impact of the global fleet, accelerating practical solutions, and helping shape future legislation.
At the same time, our management teams are delivering our very own Sustainable Seas project across the Burgess fleet – proof that real change will happen on the water, not just on paper. These collaborations are laying solid foundations for even bigger, bolder progress and partnerships in 2026.
Great things happen when we all pull together, and this year proved it. Thank you to all our clients and partners for staying the course with us.
