Hot spots for the cool crowd.

Hvar

Now firmly in the Saint-Tropez and Mykonos league, Hvar has become a firm favourite with the yachting crowd. The island has been inhabited since 6,000BC and has been attracting seafarers and visitors throughout the centuries. The place that puts it firmly on the cruising map, though, is the Carpe Diem beach club - its rise in status goes hand in hand with the reputation of the island itself. Not resting on its laurels, Carpe Diem and Carpe Diem Beach are now available in three separate locations along the coast.

Paros & Anti Paros

Move over Mykonos, the lesser-known Greek isles of Paros and Antiparos are attracting the cool crowd to their low-key shorelines. Writers and artists have been visiting for centuries, but a recent influx of A-listers has put this pair of islands squarely in the spotlight. They each have a handful of boutique beach clubs, including the understated Beach House on Antiparos. This is the place to head for sun, sea and serenity – and it is very popular with the superyacht crowd in the know.

Ibiza

The hype around Ibiza these days may be all about yoga retreats and kale smoothies, but the party vibe remains strong. For those looking for more boho glamour than rave then the effortlessly cool Experimental Beach remains a firm favourite for the summer season. A combination of beach club, restaurant and nightspot, it has a laid-back vibe and a traveller spirit. Alternatively, El Chiringuito on Playa Es Cavallet is the place to enjoy pure beach serenity with high-quality al fresco dining. For those looking to get away from the hippy chic scene, Heart offers a fabulous and more up-market fusion of dining and cabaret – an experience to remember.

Formentera

The tiny island of Formentera may have a reputation for being relatively peaceful compared to its neighbour, but this summer sees the island up its game and begin to rival Ibiza’s beach scene. Take the tender or swim ashore to Beso Beach for a long, lazy lunch, or to the chic 10 Punto 7 for sunset cocktails followed by a mix of Italian and Japanese cuisine.

Saint-Tropez

With its infectious joie de vivre it’s hardly surprising that Saint-Tropez appears to have come back into fashion again. Pampelonne Beach remains the jewel in its crown, but this year a handful of newcomers are also aiming to steal the summer show. The Hôtel Byblos’ new outpost Byblos Beach Ramatuelle opened in the spring and even this early in the season it is already welcoming stylish and sophisticated superyacht guests attracted by the wall-to-wall glamour on offer. And of course, Le Club 55 remains the hip French Riviera institution that it has always been, welcoming a steady flow of yacht tenders arriving to the private jetty throughout the season.

Closer to the port, LVMH’s Cheval Blanc Saint-Tropez (previously known as La Rèsidence de la Pinède) also opened in spring after an extensive three-year refurbishment and here you can, if you wish, enjoy Saint-Tropez’s only three-Michelin star restaurant, La Vague d’Or. This Spring also saw the Hôtel Byblos opening a brand-new restaurant called Cucina to replace Alain Ducasse’s Le Rivea.

Costa Smeralda

In high season Sardinia’s long-favoured Costa Smeralda is both beautiful and very crowded, and knowing where to go to escape the general public is key to enjoying it. Escape to Phi Beach near Porto Cervo, where superyacht guests come in by tender (it also offers a tender shuttle service) for the chilled out vibe. Sip an aperitivo as the sun sets on the private terrace and dance to the sounds of top DJs on the beach. Or for an enjoyable family day out ashore why not tender into the Cala di Volpe hotel for their world-famous buffet lunch, while your kids enjoy the Olympic size pool and burn off some pent-up energy playing on the lush green lawns.
