Burgess New Build – game changers

Published 01 octobre 2025

For five decades, Burgess has been at the helm of yachting innovation, shaping the fleet of icons that define the industry today. From the largest yacht ever built to trailblazing designs that set new benchmarks and silhouettes you can instantly recognise, these are the game-changers that rewrote the rulebook – and they all carry the Burgess stamp.

LONGEST IN THE WORLD

AZZAM

180m (590ft) | Lurssen (2013)

The world's longest yacht at 180m and boasting a top speed of over 30 knots, AZZAM is a truly extraordinary superyacht. While size was never the ultimate objective (she was originally envisaged as ‘just’ 110m), the brief was to deliver a sleek yacht with an innovative yet timeless design that would be able to travel at high speed in warm and shallow waters, and she absolutely delivers.

Thanks to her unusually shallow draught of 4.3m (14.1ft), she is able to cruise in different environments and operate in certain coastal regions and shallow bays.

LARGEST IN THE WORLD

DILBAR

156m (511.8ft) | Lurssen (2016)

Delivered in 2016, DILBAR is the largest motor yacht in the world by volume, with an incredible 15,917GT. One of the most challenging yachts ever built, she boasts features never before seen on a yacht – including a 25m swimming pool that holds an incredible 180 cubic metres of water, the largest pool ever to be installed on a yacht.

She was also a technically complex build, as partner and marine engineer at Burgess Neville Harrison explains. ‘We designed the engine room arrangement so they worked independently. If you lost the forward engine room, you could still run the yacht from the aft engine room. The same applied to the propulsion motor system – two 12 megawatt propulsion motors which could be run independently from either engine room.’

FIRST IMAX CINEMA

LADY S

93m (305.1ft) | Feadship (2019)

Painstakingly project managed and overseen by Burgess Technical Services (BTS) over the course of five years, the team worked hand in hand with the visionary owners of LADY S from concept to delivery and through to operation.

‘The whole yacht was built around the double height IMAX cinema which also incorporates Dolby Atmos sound, the first on any yacht. There isn't a cubic centimetre of this yacht that hasn't been considered and reconsidered, solutions applied and then optimised to make this happen.’

Rory Boyle, Partner, Head of Burgess New Build Sales, Naval Architect

Other stand-out features include an exterior 201" Porsche-designed C'Seed TV screen that rotates, folds and withdraws into the deck – another first for any yacht. A testament to the work of a truly masterful team of designers, builders and project managers, LADY S won the 2020 World Superyacht Award in the Displacement Motor Yacht 2,000GT–4,999GT category.

UNIQUE EXTERIOR DESIGN

JUBILEE

110.1m (361.2ft) | Oceanco (2017/2020)

The largest superyacht built in The Netherlands at the time of her delivery, JUBILEE (now KAOS) boasts cleverly positioned false decks in her superstructure as a visual trick. Designed by Igor Lobanov, this was done to mask her unusually high deck heights and to further improve her elegant proportions, with unique features like a glass-sided fish tank between the swimming pool and the beach club.

She was also built fully turnkey – with everything from tenders to crockery and crew – outfitted for the owner’s immediate use. BTS were brought in to manage the project, which would go on to be one of the largest turnkey yachts ever delivered.

JUBILEE

‘It was the largest brokered in-house sale in Burgess history as we were involved in signing the build contract and then selling it later as an existing vessel. So it was six years of effort behind the scenes, then six years to build and sell it. I still have enormous pride when I think about the project as not many people can say they’ve been involved in building a yacht over 100m. Everyone left smiling which is always the best sign, and she’s still turning heads to this day.’

LARGEST YACHT BUILT IN ENGLAND

VAVA II

96m (315ft) | Devonport Yachts (2012)

'VAVA II was a highly considered and personal design for a very experienced owner who wanted something genuinely bespoke. Designed from first principles at the Devonport yard in Plymouth, UK, she is the largest yacht ever to have been constructed in England. Benefiting from a blank canvas concept and their military experience, the engineering behind the vessel is truly custom and has proven completely dependable during her numerous circumnavigations. She has spent time all over the globe, from Alaska to Antarctica and the warm parts between.

'Burgess brokerage introduced the project with BTS overseeing the pre-contract, design, and build through to delivery. While she was contracted as a SOLAS 36 vessel, her design was instrumental in the creation of the Passenger Yacht Code, resulting in her becoming the first yacht built to both codes.’

Rory Boyle, Partner, Head of Burgess New Build Sales, Naval Architect

VAVA II

VAVA II has circumnavigated the globe several times without specialised ice-breaking features, shows that with the right design, almost any yacht can adapt to become an explorer vessel capable of crossing diverse landscapes.

INNOVATIVE FIRSTS

BRAVO EUGENIA

109m (358ft) | Oceanco (2018)

Featuring Oceanco’s innovative and eco-friendly LIFE (Lengthened, Innovative, Fuel Efficient, Eco-friendly) design, BRAVO EUGENIA set a new benchmark in yacht innovation. A testament to cutting-edge engineering and sustainable luxury, at her heart is a hybrid propulsion system with PTO/PTI capabilities, allowing the engines to either generate electricity or provide additional thrust when needed. This reduces fuel consumption, lowers emissions, and optimises engine performance.

A carefully sized battery bank supports ‘peak shaving’ – stepping in to supply extra power when demand suddenly spikes. This keeps the engines running at their most efficient level, reduces noise and vibration, and even allows for periods of near-silent, emission-free cruising. Waste heat recovery from the generator exhausts is reused for air conditioning and hot water, further improving efficiency.

BRAVO EUGENIA's innovative features even earned her the Yacht Club de Monaco’s first Belle Classe Explorer Award for Technology and Innovation, underscoring her status as a leader in sustainable luxury yachting.

FIRST INTERACTIVE WALL

LUMINOSITY

107.6m (353ft) | Benetti (2020)

The list of stand-out features housed within the 5,844GT LUMINOSITY is remarkable. But arguably the most notable is her interactive video wall that extends along the main deck and up all decks in the stairwell.

'It amazes me how many novel and unique elements we managed to incorporate,' says Sean Bianchi, Partner and Head of Burgess Technical Services. 'From the largest glass panels installed on a yacht to the largest battery system and the highest specification of AV and IT system… and that's before you consider the interior design and outfitting.'

'Unique features include a 19sqm (205sqft) wall of 264 Corian flowers that open and close as you walk by. Then there's the 370sqm (3,983sqft) interactive LED video wall running along the main deck and up five decks of the stairwell that can display fully customised video content.’

A reflection of these incredible design feats, LUMINOSITY won a 2021 World Superyacht Award in the category Displacement Motor Yachts 3,000GT and above.
