Description
The 55m (180.4ft) SAMIRA has a steel hull and aluminium superstructure built to Lloyd's classification and delivered in 2003 by Dutch shipyard Amels. MCA LY1 compliant when built, she could easily be restored to that status for commercial operation.
Designed inside and out by Britain's Terence Disdale, she has impeccable Northern European credentials and a beam of 9.6m (31.5ft) gives her 802GT of internal volume. She was last refitted in 2011 and has been meticulously maintained since delivery.
A huge sun deck has banquette seating aft and deckchairs around a dining table for 16 guests. Moving forward there is a huge multipurpose deck space and oval alcoves built into the sides of the hardtop. Forward of that are two sun lounges either side with coffee tables, the spiral staircase that leads to the lower deck and an observation lounge forward. Removable awnings provide shade.
There are additional open air dining spaces aft on bridge and main decks, again for 16 guests, and the bridge deck has walkaround sidedecks leading forward to the foredeck. Steps to starboard on the main deck aft lead down to the folding swim platform.
Inside, the D-shaped sky lounge has huge windows allowing in plenty of natural light and convivial lounges either side and a gaming table. The main saloon has a cosy lounge area aft inside the sliding glass doors and then a larger lounge with a sofa and armchairs around a large coffee table. Huge feature windows make for a very pleasant space. Forward is the formal dining area.
The full beam owner's suite is forward on the main deck and includes a study/lounge area well lit by huge oval portlights. These portlights also feature in the bedroom, which has seating port and starboard, an en suite with bath and shower room and two walk-in wardrobes. The lower deck has one VIP double cabin, one double guest cabin and two double/triple cabins with two additional berths completing accommodation for 12 guests in five cabins. She also sleeps up to 13 crew.
Her two tenders, a 7.4m (24.3ft) Petticrow Liberty and a 6m (19.7ft) Castoldi jet tender, are stowed on the upper deck behind shell doors and launched on horizontal davits. Twin 1,750hp Caterpillar diesel engines give her a top speed of 15 knots, a cruising speed of 12 knots and a transatlantic range of 5,750nm.
