Buying a berth in the Med

Published 28 May 2020

Burgess offers for sale a number of prime berths in many of the Mediterranean's most prestigious marinas. From Montenegro in the Adriatic to the Italian and French Rivieras and Spain in the west, these long term leasehold berths allow owners to have a fixed base always available and to take advantage of a number of marina services to make life easier for owners, guests, captains and crews.

As well as the 24 hour security you would expect, these services range from helicopter and limousine transfers to nearby airports, high speed WiFi, free concierge services with a dedicated point of contact always available, allocated parking spaces, shore storage, fuel stations and priority access to chandleries and shipyards for professional maintenance and refit services.

Many of these marinas have hotels, suites, boutiques, restaurants and bars for entertaining visiting guests, as well as club lounges, medical, gym and wellness facilities for crew health and welfare. Many marinas also invite owners to sublet their berths to provide a return on their investment during the cruising season.

One of the most popular and convenient havens in the Mediterranean is Marina Genova Aeroporto, right next to Cristoforo Colombo International Airport. The marina has 24 hour security, White Glove concierge service, direct airport access, a hotel, spa and wellness centre, WiFi, restaurants and bars, five pumps on a 150m long fuel jetty and three local shipyards.

We have seven berths available for purchase there, ranging from 35-125m. Of these, three have very enticing asking prices and motivated sellers.

Berth W5 has a length of 125m (410.1ft) and includes 10 parking spaces and five garages. Its 32 year lease is available for an asking price of EUR 10,000,000 (VAT paid)

With a large increase in the new build sector and multiple large yacht orders with delivery in the next few years, yacht marinas and berths with attractive long term leaseholds are becoming prime real estate and are now a serious factor for owners and captains to consider carefully.
