Gloria’s love for yachting stemmed from childhood, growing up sailing with her family in the UK and the Mediterranean, and so she knew she wanted to incorporate yachting into her career. She studied geography at the University of Leeds and completed a year of study abroad in France, before taking to the seas completing three summer yachting seasons across the Mediterranean, furthering her nautical skills – an invaluable asset she brings to her role today at Burgess.

Her first season was in Greece where she worked as the first mate on a 15.9m (52ft) charter sailing yacht based in Mykonos. The following year she moved on to flotilla holidays on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast where she held the role of flotilla host. After that season, she decided to challenge herself by completing her RYA Yachtmaster qualification in the UK, enabling her to return to Croatia the following year as the flotilla skipper.

Gloria transferred her invaluable nautical skills honed on the water to Burgess when she joined the London office in 2024. As an assistant in the Charter Management department, she helps manage 11 of our yachts ranging from 40m upwards, keeping her role varied and exciting. Two standout yachts under her remit include RENAISSANCE (112m), the largest of Burgess’ charter yachts, and SLIPSTREAM (60m), which has been in Burgess’ charter fleet since 2008.

When asked about her career highlights, Gloria quickly answers. 'My most memorable career highlight was gaining my RYA Yachtmaster qualification to become a certified sailing yacht skipper. It required a lot of training and dedication, but the hard work paid off when I passed the exams, enabling me to skipper yachts in Croatia, make fantastic memories, and learn more about the industry – something that proves useful in my role at Burgess.'

Outside of work, Gloria enjoys attending ballet and Pilates classes, travelling, hiking and catching up with friends.
