Ian joined Burgess in 2023 following a 22-year career in financial services. As Managing Director, he is a member of the Burgess strategic board and is responsible for Burgess’ performance across all of its business lines. He brings a high level of financial expertise, leadership skills and commercial acumen to his role.

Ian’s focus is on the development of the business, working closely with the heads of department to ensure they have the right tools and structure to move forward. This extends to the Burgess Partnership Scheme, which distinguishes Burgess from the rest of the yachting industry. Prior to Burgess, Ian held multiple positions at HSBC, Barclays Capital (in London and Dubai), JP Morgan and TI Automotive. Most recently he was Managing Director at Citi, where he was UK Head of Technology & Communications Corporate Banking. During his career, he has raised capital for companies in sectors including telecoms, technology, shipping, automotive, gaming, oil and gas and consumer goods.

Ian came to the UK from Massachusetts, he has a PhD in International Studies from Cambridge University, an MA (Hons) from St Andrews University and is an avid life-long sailor. He has travelled extensively across Europe, the Middle East and further afield.
